Edward Lam Named TechStart Technology Student of the Year

Congratulations are in order for Century senior and one of the school's valedictorians, Edward Lam. He was named 2025 Technology Student of the Year by the TechStart Foundation. The award includes a $2,000 scholarship that can be applied to Edward's educational expenses and associated costs.

Century High School has a complex rotating class schedule, and students were confused about when to attend classes. Edward  states, “I designed a web application for real-time tracking of class schedules in my sophomore year. I continued managing it and successfully resolved issues for 1000+ students and teachers, earning widespread recognition for its impact.” Some of Edward’s other computer science and STEM-related awards and work includes:

  • The Century Jag Fest Applied Web Design Award for facilitating the installation of NodeJS and NPM on all school devices, opening doors for students to excel further in web design. 
  • Computer Science Career Pathway leader and stakeholder who promotes the pathway to elementary and middle school students, facilitates new initiatives and helps with career pathway events.
     
  • MRI and MRS Data Analyst Intern at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) analyzing MRI/MRS data from rat brains. Developing Python code to enhance workflow, supporting studies on alcoholism that could prevent 178,000 deaths annually.
  • Participant in NW codeORCreate, collaborating in a team to design a web platform using ReactJS and other libraries.
     
  • Enabling a Unity game solution to combat bullying and promote positive social change.
     
  • Developing a minimalistic, cross-platform Integrated Development Environment (IDE) using ReactJS and Electron to simplify programming microcomputing units like ESP32. This project aims to enhance accessibility for beginners and educators in embedded systems.

Edward indicates he is accepted at Oregon State University and will be majoring in Electrical and Computer Engineering.
